Open Office

The office has moved to a more glamorous and prestigious location (adjectives come from the boss). In practice that means my working place is just behind the border between Helsinki and Espoo which will double the monthly ticket expense to a stupefying 80€! Also the infrastructure is minimal since there are just highways around – no shops, supermarkets or restaurants. Everyone is condemned to the SodexHo cafeteria downstairs of the building which offers tasteless, low quality food for a minimum of 8.20€ per meal.
The office itself is again in the fashionable nowadays “open” style which means that everyone can control what the others have on their computer screens. I’m in a better position this time as I got a place in the corner, behind a glass partition. My seat is on the picture below the first one from the right.
The curiosity about this place are the automatic window shades. As the 8th floor view from the windows was supposed to be the highlight of this new location it is only ironic that the light-sensitive shade system covers the windows automatically whenever there’s enough light outside to see anything. Which in practice means most of the day (as can be seen on the photo). It’s also quite scary that in winter, when most of the time it’s dark, the shades will immediately close whenever theres a rare moment of sunshine.

Given the rigid behavioural conventions no wonder people don’t feel curiosity towards new acquaintances. They just don’t expect anyone to behave in unconventional or otherwise extraordinary ways.

Call of the Wilderness

Day by day I keep establishing my working habits. The tomato riping farm on a plate by the monitor, lonely lunch hours divided between microwave food and supermarket ice-cream and of course the short trips to the wilderness.

Digital Revolution

The digital revolution is taking the next step. According to related sources (and my boss) the mobile sector is growing so fast that within a year the company might triple it’s income. Advertising is already invading cellular telephones and agencies make efforts to invent new forms of mobile entertainment.
Luckily just 2 minutes away from the office I have an offline strip of seaside with plenty of interesting birds. Canadian Geese are extending their families these days and I get to watch the little gray fellows learning.

The time has come for some stabilisation. Stabilising means glass & steal, lunch coupons and normalized working hours. This should repair my home economy, help move to a new apartment and maybe there’ll be something left for a short trip home.

I managed to smash two vitrines during working hours. I’d suggest 6am is just not the best time to drive along glass walls. I hope drivers of bigger machines are more awake than I was.

I feel sorry for my work mates from the railway station – no alternative perspectives seem to appear for them. While I usually jump from one place to another they cling to their cleaning jobs like it would be the last thing they’ll ever have. I hope some day they get the satisfaction and peace they deserve.

For now it has to be a Kuuma Grillattu Jyväbroilerin Koipi for 0,99€ but if I work hard enough someday it will be Brunbergin Suukko for 4,95€!
